USN's Centennial celebration has meant more than just big celebrations and interesting panel discussions--our 100th birthday has inspired us to catalogue and organize our treasure trove of archival material, with some of it now available online.
Jenny Winston, USN's archivist, has been working this year (with the help of volunteers) to process, organize, and digitize the ever-growing collection of old photos, old student newspapers, programs, newspaper clippings, and miscellany that is the archives of PDS and USN.
The collection is growing because alumni continue to donate items they have been saving for years. Recently we received scrapbook pages and photos from one of the last PDS football stars, class of 1946. We have old uniforms, trophies, century-old copies of the literary magazine The Volunteer. We have the scorebook from the state champion 1927 girls' basketball team. We have cheerleading and basketball uniforms.
While much remains to be done, the digital archives is worth browsing and searching for anyone with an interest in the school's history. And plan to see a physical display from the archives at USN's 100th birthday party and all-alumni reunion, May 1 and 2.
